Some Windows 11 systems will run without the TPM 2.0 chips

The Trusted Platform Module, or TPM 2.0, is a chip found in many PCs that promises to make them secure. The technology is fairly new, and therefore, not all PCs have chips containing the TPM 2.0 chip. This tends to be an issue for laptops, but now we’re noticing that some PCs will be able to use the TPM 2.0 chip without it.

Microsoft’s new Windows 10 operating system is about to land and, as of the time of this writing, there aren’t any official specs available for the first preview (that won’t work without a TPM chip or the right driver). However, one brave early adopter has already managed to get it to work without any TPM chips.

Back in November, Microsoft announced that it’s starting to make Windows 7 and 8.1 systems with TPM 2.0 chips available. It plans to make them available this year and it’s not clear on exactly when that will be.

  • The TPM chip craze isn’t over yet, and Microsoft has announced that some systems with the new operating system will be able to run without TPM.
  • This solution will not benefit all users, but only those in certain categories.
  • OEMs of custom commercial systems, contract systems and customer systems with a custom image can run Windows 11 without the TPM chip.
  • Microsoft’s initiative could target countries that do not use Western encryption technology, such as. B. China and Russia.

After one of Windows 11’s system requirements caused a stir among users of Microsoft’s latest operating system, you’d think the company would do something about it.

And it happened, but not for everyone. Now Microsoft says some systems will be able to run the controversial operating system without the dreaded TPM security chip.

Few systems can meet this requirement

The bad news for regular Windows users is that unfortunately they don’t have access to the installation ISOs or the workaround used for these builds.

Perhaps after the big release, when the dust has settled a bit, they will be made available to the public.

These special constructs are probably intended for use in countries that do not use Western encryption technologies, such as B. China and Russia.

The technology giant said some systems will work without the cryptoprocessor TPM enabled, making this requirement unnecessary.

The full system requirements for Windows 11 have been published by Microsoft in a PDF that contains sixteen pages of technical information about the new operating system.

So installing Windows 11 on a system without TPM requires special permission from Microsoft.

The technology company will enable OEMs of specialized commercial systems, custom systems and custom vision systems to deliver systems without TPM support enabled.

So it seems that for the rest of us, these TPM chips will be staples of hardware, which means everyone should get them as soon as possible.

Due to their high demand, TPM 2.0 chips are very expensive and hard to find, selling for 4 to 5 times their original price.

Take part in the discussionSince the TPM 2.0 chip is a lot of money and has a lot of power, it is not surprising that some OEMs won’t include it in their Windows-based machines. The good news is that they will still work on Win10 computers, without a TPM chip. The bad news is that they may not work on Windows Update, since it may not detect a TPM 2.0 chip. The good news, however, is that the Windows Update team is working on a solution that will detect a TPM 2.0 chip and install it, so that Windows Update works again..
