To generate a CSR for Microsoft IIS
- Open Internet IIS Manager
To open IIS, search Start>Control Panel>System and Security>Administrative Tools>Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.
Now select the server name on the left side of the screen under Connection and then click on the Server Certificate icon in the middle of the window.
Then click Certificate Request in the Action menu on the right side of the IIS window.
A window titled Distinguished Name Properties appears in which you can enter the required information.

In the Cryptographic Service Provider Properties field, select the private key length of 2048 bits.
Now you have the CSR and you can save it in the right place, e.g. B. on your desktop/server with a .txt extension.

Installing an SSL/TLS certificate in Microsoft IIS
After creating the CSR, it was time to install SSL on the IIS server. After you have sent the CSR to your SSL provider and completed the configuration process, you will receive a zip file with the master, root and intermediate certificates. You should save it on your desktop as your_domain_name_cer .
Open IIS Manager
You must reopen the IIS manager and click on the Connection menu on the left side of the window and on the Server Certificate icon that appears in the middle of the window.
Click Complete Certificate Request
Now click on the Action menu on the right side of the window and select Complete Certificate Request.
The Certificate Request Complete wizard appears, in which you must select the certificate file you received. Register a friendly name for your certificate and select Personal to register the certificate. Then press OK.
You can see your certificate in the server certificate list.
It’s time to assign a certificate to the site.
Return to the Connection menu that appears on the left side of the IIS window and locate the server name>website folder where you need to select the website to which you want to bind the certificate.
Now click on the Action menu and select Bindings , which appears on the right side of the IIS window.
The Site Bindings window will appear, click the Add button on the right.
The Add Site Binding window appears, in which you must add the following information:
- Type– Select https from the drop down menu.
- IP address– Selection All unassigned. Or, if you have multiple IP addresses, select a suitable IP address.
- Port– Enter 443unless.
- SSL Certificates– Select friendly name of the installed SSL certificate.
- Press OK .
You must use the SSL checker to verify the SSL installed. If installed correctly, it will say HTTPS for domain names like https://www.domain1.com or https://domain1.com.You’ve just finished setting up your first website, and want to make sure that it gets the security and protection it needs.
